A RECORD TYING 76 RUNNERS/WALKERS PARTICIPATE IN 10TH ANNIVERSARY HUNTINGTON BEACH FITNESS CENTER RUN ON MAY 11, 2011
     Fifty-two runners and 24 walkers participated in the 10th annual Huntington Beach Fitness Center Run/Walk on May 11, 2011. The 76 total participants tied the record set in 2006 when
55 runners and 21 walkers participated.  Dave Parcel won the race for the third time in a time of 17:45, Dave Schiller (won one race) was 2nd in 18:34 while five time winner John Araujo was
third in a time of 19:25.  The only other winner of the race, Bill McDermott, didn't participate in the 10th anniversary race.  Dave's winning time of 17:45 was the fastest since Dave ran a course
 record of 17:08 in 2006.
     There were 52 runners in this years race, the most since a record 55 ran in 2005 and 2006.  The 24 walkers participating broke the previous record of 21 in 2006.
     The following four runners have either ran in all ten annual races (# in parentheses is # of Boeing Seal Beach lunch hour monthly races ran):  John Araujo (163), Mark Calkins (119), Jim Scianni
(104) and Nelson Slagle (293).
      Eighteen of the 52 runners in the Huntington Beach race have also ran in the lunch hour Seal Beach race.
     Twenty runners have ran at least 6 of the 10 Huntington Beach races and 16 of the 20 have ran the Seal Beach lunch hour 5K.
      Eleven runners ran both the Seal Beach lunch hour 5K on Monday and the annual Huntington Beach race on Wednesday.  Noted by A in first column after the name.
      Congrats to Eugene Gonzalez for winning the walk portion in 18:55.  Gary Seeto was 2nd for the second consecutive race after winning 3 years ago.
      Anne Blaiki, June Sardella and Raja Shunmugavel have walked in 7 races.  Larry Tallmadge has walked 6 races.

JOHN ARAUJO WINS 9TH ANNUAL BOEING HUNTINGTON BEACH 5K ON MAY 12, 2010
     John Araujo won the 9th annual Boeing Huntington Beach 5K on May 12, 2010 in a time of 18.47.   This is the
fifth time John has won this event.  Dave Parsel (2), Dave Schiller (1) and Bill McDermott (1) have won the other 4 races.
Rounding out the top five were: David Schiller 2- 18.55, David Hicks 3- 19.15 , Thomas Fung 4- 20:27 and John Salgado
5- 1:08.  The top 3 was a repeat from 2009 and each runners time was within 13 seconds of their 2009 times.
     There were 47 runners and 16 walkers, similar to last years 42 runners and 21 walkers.  The following
five runners have ran or walked in all 8 annual races:  (# in parenthesis is # of Boeing Seal Beach lunch hour
races ran) John Araujo (154), Mark Calkins (111), Bill McDermott (0), Jim Scianni (96)
and Nelson Slagle (281).  The 47 runners was third best to 55 who ran in both 2005 & 2006.
Nineteen of the 47 runners have run in the monthly 5K at the Boeing Seal Beach facility.  Eleven
 runners ran Monday at Seal Beach and two days later in the HB race.
     Congrats to Susan Hanley  for winning the walking portion of the race with a time of 18:20. Gary Seeto was 2nd
after winning last years race.  Raja Shunmugavel ran her 7th straight race including 6 top 4 finishes.   Anne Blaiki,
June Sardella and Larry Tallmadge have each walked 6 of the 9 events. Susan's winning time of 18:20 was the 
fastest of the 8 events that were 1.6 miles.  The first race in 2002 was on a 1.3 mile course..  Barbara
Hansen-Castro won the first walk in 2002 in a time of 16:48.  See walking times after the narratives.

JOHN ARAUJO WINS 8TH ANNUAL BOEING HUNTINGTON BEACH 5K IN MAY 2009
     John Araujo won the 8th annual Boeing Huntington Beach 5K on May 13, 2009 in a time of 18.34.   This is the
fourth time John has won this event.  Dave Parsel (2), Dave Schiller (1) and Bill McDermott (1) have won the other 4 races.
Rounding out the top five were: David Schiller 2- 19.02, David Hicks 3- 19.27, Brian Werner 4- 20.10 and Preston
Ferguson 5- 21.14.
     There were 42 runners and 21 walkers, similar to last years 43 runners and 20 walkers.  The following
seven runners have ran or walked in all 8 annual races:  (# in parenthesis is # of Boeing Seal Beach lunch hour
races ran) John Araujo (143), Michelle De Jung (46), Mark Calkins (102), Bill McDermott (0), Jim Scianni (84)
Deneva Henry (0) and Nelson Slagle (269).
     Twenty-three of the 43 runners have ran in the monthly Boeing lunch hour 5K run at Seal Beach.   This
includes the first 6 finishers.  Eleven runners ran Monday at Seal Beach and two days later in the HB race.

JOHN ARAUJO WINS 7TH ANNUAL BOEING HUNTINGTON BEACH 5K IN MAY 2008
     John Araujo won the 7th annual Boeing Huntington Beach 5K on May 14, 2008 in a time of 17:47.   This is the
third time John has won this event.  Dave Parsel (2) and Dave Schiller (1) have the other 3 wins in the last 6 races.
Rounding out the top five were: Dave Parsel 2- 18:09, Todd Jenson 3- 18:51, David Schiller 4- 19.11 and Tom
Gee 5- 20.04.  
     There were 43 runners and 20 walkers, similar to last years 45 runners and 18 walkers.  The following
seven runners have ran or walked in all 7 annual races:  (# in parenthesis is # of Boeing Seal Beach lunch hour

JOHN ARAUJO WINS 6TH ANNUAL BOEING HUNTINGTON BEACH 5K IN MAY 2007
     John Araujo won the 6th annual Boeing Huntington Beach 5K on May 9, 2007 in a time of 18:26.   This is
the 2nd time John has won the race.  He also has been 2nd twice and 3rd twice. The time of 18:26 tied
the slowest winning time in the six races.  Rounding out the top 5 are: Todd Jensen 2- 18:41, David
Schiller 3- 18:46, 4- Jose Gallardo 4- 19:00 and Thomas Fung 5- 20:26.
     There were 45 runners and 18 walkers.  The following eight runners have ran all 6 races held in Huntington
Beach:  John Araujo (120), Bill McDermott (0), Henry Rodriguez (12), Michelle DeJong (42), Mark
Calkins (86), Tony Trujillo (97), Jim Scianni (63) and Nelson Slagle (249).  The number following the
name is the number of lunch hour Seal Beach 5K the runner has ran.  
     Congrats to Raja Shunmugavel for winning the walking portion of the race with a time of 21:21.
This is the 2nd straight race he has won.  No walker has walked in all six races.

DAVE PARSEL WINS 5TH ANNUAL BOEING HUNTINGTON BEACH 5K
     Dave Parsel won the 5th annual Boeing Huntington Beach 5K in a time of 17:08 on May 10, 2006. 
Dave broke the course record he set last year by  seconds. First time participant Mike Zeberkiewicz
was 2nd in 17:29 and John Araujo was 3rd in 18.16.  Dave Parcel and John Araujo finished 1-2 in
the Monthly Boeing Seal Beach 5K in 44 of the last 50 races.  Rounding out the top five were Dave
Schiller 18:20 and Todd Jenson in 19:02.
      There were 55 runners, tying last years record.  There were 21 walkers beating last 
years record of 16.  Nine runners have run all 5 races.  No walkers have walked all 5 races.
     Congrats to Raja Shunmugavel for winning the walking portion of the race with a time of 21:29.

     Twenty-four of the 55 runners have ran in the monthly Boeing 5K run at Seal Beach. 
DAVE PARSEL WINS 4TH ANNUAL BOEING HUNTINGTON BEACH 5K
       Dave Parsel won the 4th annual Boeing Huntington Beach 5K in a time of 17:11 on May 11,
2005.  This was the fastest winning time thus Dave now holds the course record.  Dave is the 4th
different winner in the 4 races.  John Araujo was 2nd in 17:30 which also broke the prior record..
Dave and John also finished 1-2 in the Boeing Seal Beach 5K two days earlier.  Rounding out the
top five were Jose Gallardo 3- 18:09, Todd Jensen 4- 19:04 and Tom Gee 5- 20:12.
      There were 55 runners, breaking last years record of 43.  There were16 walkers beating last 
  years walkers by 2.  Twelve runners have run all 4 races.  
    Congrats to Rosa Cortez for winning the walking portion of the race for the second
consecutive year.

      Dave Schiller won the 3rd annual Huntington Beach 5K on May 12, 2004 in a time of 18:26,
the same time as John Araujo who was last years champ.  Rounding out the top five were:
Tom Gee 3- 18:29, Bill McDermott (1st year winner), 19:54 and Arnie Burke 5- 20:06.
      We had 14 walkers, the same as last year and 43 runners, one more than last year.
      A $7 entry fee got you a t-shirt and a nice food spread after the race.  Great event.  
     Twenty-one of the 43 runners have ran in the monthly Boeing 5K run at Seal Beach 
including 10 of the first 16 finishers.
JOHN ARAUJO WINS 2ND ANNUAL HUNTINGTON BEACH 5K IN 2003
    The 2nd annual Boeing Huntington Beach 5K was held at the rec center on the Huntington Beach
campus on May 14, 2003.  Forty-two runners ran the 5K.  Fourteen walkers walked a 1.3 mile course.  
A $7 entry fee got you a t-shirt and a nice food spread after the race.  Great event.  
     John Araujo won the 2nd running of the Boeing Huntington Beach 5K with a time of 17:45.  Last year
Bill McDermott won in a time of 17:37.  Twenty of the 42 runners and 12 of the first 15 finishers have
