GERRY HAMILTON EDGES NELSON SLAGLE FOR 2011 PREDICTOR OF THE YEAR
     Gerry Hamilton averaged 18.26 place in basketball, baseball and football predictions in 2011 to edge Nelson Slagle who averaged 18.64 place.
It was the 3rd closest race in the 27 years I have kept track of this stat.  Dick Hammerstrom edged Gerry by .05 in 2007 and Nelson edged
his son Jerry by .10 in 2005.  Gerry also won in 1985, 1993, 1997 and 1998. This was the 5th straight year Gerry has finished in the top 4
and 10th time in the last 12 years.  Nelson won 6 of last 9 years and have finished in the top 4 places for last 19 straight years.  He has been
top predictor 10 times followed by Gerry 5 and Gail Engel at 3.  Jim Slagle has finished in top 5 for the 8th time in the last 9 years.  Dick
Hammerstrom finished in top 5 for the 7th time in last 8 years.  Blake Vasquez finished in top 5 for 4th time in last 13 years.

             NELSON SLAGLE EDGES DICK HAMMERSTROM FOR 2010 PREDICTOR OF THE YEAR
     Nelson Slagle edged Dick Hammerstrom for predictor of the year in 2010.  Nelson needed to finish more than two places ahead of
Dick in football to win predictor of the year and ended up 4 places ahead.  Nelson has won 6 of the last 8 years and has finished in
the top 4 places in 18 straight years.   Gerry Hamilton has finished in the top 4 for the fourth straight year and 9th time in last 11
years.  Jim Slagle has finished in top 5 for the 7th time in the last 8 years.  Dick finished in the top 5 for the 6th time in last 7 years.
     To qualify for Predictor of the Year, you had to predict baseball, basketball and football in 2010.  Eight predictors qualified.
 BOB THOMAS RALLY IN FOOTBALL GIVES HIM 2009 PREDICTOR OF THE YEAR
     Bob Thomas captured the 2009 Predictor of the Year (POY) thanks to a rally in football predictions.  Bob had to finish ahead of
.   Nelson to win the 2009 crown.  Bob was ahead of Nelson until week 10 and Nelson had a 44 point lead after week 12.  Bob grabbed
the lead in week 14 and finished 45 points ahead of Nelson.  This was Bob's first  POY title and 4th top 5 finish, 
all in the lst 7 years.  Nelson had won 5 of the last 6 years and has now finished in the top 4 places for 17 straight years..
Bob Scholl had his first top 5 finish since 1993 as he usually passes on baseball predictions.   This is Gerry Hamilton's
3rd straight top 5 finish and 8th in last 10 years.  This was Bob Stanley first top 5 finish.

                        NELSON SLAGLE 2008 PREDICTOR OF THE YEAR
     Nelson Slagle was the 2008 Predictor of the Year with a record low average of 2.03% in baseball, basketball and football predictions.
Nelson was 13 out of 198 predictors in baseball and won both basketball and football predicts in 2008.  The 2.03% average beat the previous
record of Gerry Hamilton who averaged 4.76% in 1993.  Nelson defeated runner up Jim Slagle by 25.29%, the largest margin ever.
The previous record margin between 1st and 2nd was in 2004 when Nelson won by 16.58%.  Jim's 2nd place average % of 
27.32% was the highest runner-up % since 1986.
    This was Nelson's  9th predictor of the year award including 5 of the last 6 years.  He has also been in the top 5 for 17 straight 
years.  Jim has the 2nd longest streak in the top 5 at 6 followed by Dick Hammerstrom at 5.  Blake Vasquez finished in the top
five for the first time since he won the title in 2000.  
      To qualify for Predictor of the Year, you had to predict baseball, basketball and football in 2008.  Eight predictors qualified.
DICK HAMMERSTROM EDGES GERRY HAMILTON FOR 2007 PREDICTOR OF THE YEAR
      Dick Hammerstrom edged Gerry Hamilton 21.96% to Gerry Hamilton's 22.01% to win the 2007 Predictor of the year award.  This
was the closest race ever beating the previous closest match in 1995 when Nelson Slagle edged Jerry Slagle 17.10 to 17.00. 
This was Dick's first POY  title and his 4th straight top five finish.  
     The top 5 predictors averaged 31.05% which means on average they beat 68.95% of the predictors each season.  To qualify for
POY, you needed to predict basketball, baseball and football in 2008.  Bob Stanley would have likely been a runaway winner in
2007 if he would have predicted baseball as he was first in both basketball and football.
     Gerry Hamilton just missed winning his 5th POY award settling for 2nd for the 3rd time, all in the last 5 years.  Nelson had his 4
straight years of being POW and 7 straight years in the top 2 broken but he did finish in the top 5 for the 22nd straight year. 
Jim 'Ohio' Slagle has the 2nd longest streak in the top 5 at five years.
NELSON SLAGLE 2006 PREDICTOR OF THE YEAR
     Nelson Slagle was the 2006 predictor of the year for the six predictors predicting Basketball, Baseball and
Football predictions in 2006.  Nelson averaged 18.57% (beat 81% on the average).  This was the fourth straight year
that Nelson has won predictor of the year.  And he has been 1st or 2nd for seven straight years. This was Nelson's
8th Predictor of the Year in the last 22 years, the 15th straight year he has placed in the top four and 21st
straight year in the top 5.  
     Jim Slagle finished 2nd for the 2nd straight year with a % of 20.57 for his 4th straight top 4 finish. 
Bob Thomas was 3rd for his highest ever rating and 2nd straight top four ranking.   Dick Hammerstrom 
finished 5th for the 3rd straight year. Bob Koller was 4th, his first finish in the top 5.  
     The six predictors that predicted all three sports in 2006 averaged 36.5%, thus beat 63.5% on the average.  
We had nine predictors that predicted two of the three sports in 2006, one sport short of qualifying for Predictor of the year.
NELSON SLAGLE 2005 PREDICTOR OF THE YEAR
     Nelson Slagle was the 2005 predictor of the year for the eight predictors predicting Basketball, Baseball and
Football predictions.  Nelson averaged 10.24% (beat 90% on the average).  This was the third straight year
that Nelson has won predictor of the year.  And he has been 1st or 2nd for six straight years. This was Nelson's
7th Predictor of the Year in the last 21 years and the 14th straight year he has placed in the top four.  
     Jim Slagle finished 2nd with a 18.13 for his 3rd straight top 4 finish.  John Baker made the top five for
the first time since 2001.  Bob Thomas made his first appearance in the top five.  Dick Hammerstrom 
finished 5th for the 2nd straight year.
  NELSON SLAGLE 2004 PREDICTOR OF THE YEAR
      Nelson Slagle was the 2004 predictor of the year for the nine predictors predicting Basketball, Baseball and
Football predictions.  Nelson averaged 8.42% (beat 92% on the average) which was the 4th lowest average in
  20 years of tracking Predictor of the Year. Gerry Hamilton was second with a 25.05% average.   Nelson and
Gerry finished 1-2 for the 2nd straight year.  This was the 13th straight year that Nelson has placed in the top
4 and Gerry Hamilton was in the top five for the fifth consecutive year. Phil Hensley was in the top 5 for the
5th time in the last 6 years.   Nelson Slagle (6), Gerry Hamilton (4), Gail Engel (3), Bob Scholl (2) and Phil
Hensley (2) have won 17 of the 20 years computed.
     The results were computed by taking the average percentage placing in the 2004 basketball,
baseball and football predictions.  You had to predict all three sports to qualify. Only nine predictors 
predicted all three sports in 2004.  
NELSON SLAGLE 2003 PREDICTOR OF THE YEAR
     Nelson Slagle was predictor of the year for the nine predictors predicting Basketball, Baseball and Football
predictions.  Nelson averaged 18.91% (beat 81% on the average) which was the highest average since 1992. 
  Gerry Hamilton was second with a 25.55% average.   This was the 12th straight year that Nelson has placed
in the top 4.  and Gerry Hamilton was in the top five for the fourth consecutive year.  Nelson Slagle (5), Gerry
Hamilton (4), Gail Engel (3), Bob Scholl (2) and Phil Hensley (2) have won 16 of the 19 years computed.
Congrats to Bob Thomas and Bob Koller for finishing in the top 5 for the first time.

PHIL HENSLEY 2002 PREDICTOR OF THE YEAR
     Phil Hensley was 2002 predictor of the year averaging 10.51 for the three sports predictions to edge Nelson
Slagle who averaged 14.20.  This is the 2nd consecutive year that Phil Hensley has won the title.  Nelson
  Slagle has been in the top five for eleven straight years. Phil Hensley is in the top 5 for the 4th straight year
and Gerry Hamilton was in the top five for the third consecutive year.  Nelson Slagle (4), Gerry Hamilton (4),
Gail Engel (3), Bob Scholl (2) and Phil Hensley (2) have won 15 of the 18 years computed. Congrats to Al
Manzey for finishing in the top 5 for the first time.  Only 8 different predictors have won Predictor of the Year
Honors.
